About VCSE
Volunteer Centre South Edinburgh was set up in November 2003 to promote volunteering in Gracemount, Gilmerton, the Inch, Burdiehouse and Moredun. It is funded through the South Edinburgh Social Inclusion Project and brings the services of the Volunteer Centre to South Edinburgh.
VCSE seeks to raise the profile of volunteering in South Edinburgh, encouraging members of the local communities to volunteer by presenting as wide a range of local opportunities as possible and providing advice, guidance and support as appropriate. Volunteers can access the opportunities via the phone, a drop-in facility or an arranged interview.
Volunteers who may require extra support before and during their voluntary work (perhaps because of mental health issues, criminal record, physical disability) are offered an informal interview to discuss the most appropriate post and any further support that is required thereafter.
VCSE works with local organisations to support them in their involvement with volunteers providing information and training on best practice in volunteering. This may take the form of advice on initially engaging volunteers, writing a volunteer policy, devising volunteer roles, supporting volunteers etc as well as more specific issues.
Whether working with individuals or organisations, VCSE is able to call on the expertise and experience of the staff at Volunteer Centre Edinburgh to offer in depth advice and resources as well as training opportunities.
