Role & Remit of iGIVE - the Implementation Group Inspiring Volunteering in Edinburgh
Article 1 – Aims
- to implement the Inspiring Volunteering: A Volunteering Strategy for Edinburgh Action Plan within the terms of the Edinburgh Compact
Articles 2 – Mode of operation
- each representative will undertake to progress the strategy action plan within their agencies and communities of interest, and must regularly communicate progress on particular issues to these agencies and communities of interest
- work of the iGIV E will be based on equity, respect, transparency, good communication and accountability
- we will strive to develop good relationships to enhance trust and open communication
- each representative's view will be fully respected and considered as part of the iGIVE work and deliberations
- iGIV E members will focus on discussing issues constructively and will not focus on the practice of individual agencies or organisations
- When we pose an issue or a problem, we will also try to present a solution
- There will regular communication with the Compact Partnership to ensure relevant cross-cutting matters are brought to the attention of the iGIVE
Article 3 – Membership
The following arrangements form the basis of representation:
(a) each agency or community of interest will put an appropriate named officer or volunteer forward
(b) the person should be able to mobilise resources within their agency or organisation and/or (for Voluntary Sector members in particular) have access to appropriate networks or forums
(b) where necessary a member may nominate a deputy to undertake the function on their behalf, but this is not to occur on a regular basis
(c) to preserve equity, representation will remain broadly equal between public bodies and the voluntary and community sector (however sub-groups with varied representation may be created, where we need to co-opt outside expertise).
Article 4 – Commitment
- members are expected to prepare for and attend quarterly iGIV E meetings and to report back and consult with their agency and community of interest after each meeting
- working sub groups may be formed from time to time and it is expected that members are involved in these
- members are expected to take every opportunity to advocate on behalf of the group, to give occasional presentations or otherwise publicise and promote the work of the group

Article 5 – Operation and Decision-making
iGIVE Meetings
- should take place four times a year
- sub-group meetings will be held as required
- meetings or sub-group can include advisors and support out-with the iGIV E membership
- the iGIV E will receive ongoing business support from its Secretariat at Volunteer Centre Edinburgh
- we shall make decisions by consensus wherever possible
Article 6 – Accountability and reporting
iGIVE is a sub group of the Edinburgh Compact Partnership. Progress reports will be submitted to the Compact Partnership Bi-annually.
Monitoring progress against the Action plan should be a standing item on the iGIVE meeting Agenda
